is in debating these and other unusual little problems which arise from time to time, and in obtaining authoritative ruling on them, that an organisation such as the Referees Association is doing such excellent work for the betterment of soccer. And the longer referees are actively associated with the game, the more

they

realise how essential it is to keep themselves fully informed on these points, and the laws of the gume generally On the average referees are willing to slog away studying and learning the various laws and the in- tricate problems

which constantly arise from them, and because of this it is well for us to acknowledge their sincerity and Integrity, even if we do not always agree with their decisions.

KUMAONS NO MATCH FOR EAST LANCES JUNIORS

The Kumaon Rifles are still with- out a point for in their Third Divi- alon encounter with the East Lancs. Juniors at Chatham Road yesterday afternoon they were again defeated the East Lance. running out easy winners by ten goals to one.

In spite of being so heuvlly de-. feated they were by no means dis- graced and many of their close pass- ing movements would have done credit to some of the more experi- enced sides in the Colony. Their great failing seems to be their in- ability to gain possession from an opponent. Mr. Tomlinson, the Rifles centre forward is the most polish- od member in the team and given the necessary support would cause many anxious moments to opposing custodians.

Assisted by a very strong wind the East Lancashires penned their opponents in their own half during the opening perlod when they scar- ed seven times to the Rifles once, During the second half the Rifles played up well and were unlucky not to add to their score.

The East Lancashires recorded goals through Bowker (5), Connolley (3), Lawless und Franels, whilst the Rifles replled through Mr. Tomlin-

son.
