Ready communication without involving the isolation which is one of the distinctive features of the Laundry system.

6. The female department will be arranged to participate in the general administrative work of the hospital, thereby ensuring complete co-operation.

4. The laundry, work house, dead house and post-mortem room should be entirely separated from the rest of the hospital and if possible placed to leeward of prevailing winds.

The General Plan (see 1) shows how it is proposed to carry out these general principles. The occasion of communication between two ward blocks, which is considered necessary, is placed as far as possible to keep the ward blocks clear of the bank above the administrative block which occupies a central position in the centre of the site. This affords the easiest means of communication between ward blocks and is readily accessible to out-patients and others entering from the lawn road.

The main entrance is in the courtyard formed by the ward blocks and the Nurses' Quarters and is approached from the gate to the site at an angle.

The Pathology block is placed in a secluded position in the corner and the post-mortem department is situated with this department in view. By this arrangement, under firm observation, the ward attendants can be kept as little as possible in contact with the source of infection.
