News has been received in the Colony that Mr. J. A. Howe, Inspector of Works, Public Works Department, who is at present on holiday leave, a retiring from Government Service as from the end of the present year,
Mr. Howe joined the Government service in November, 1914, at the age of 30, as Second Class Overseer served in that ronic until January, 1920, when he was
op- pointed First Class Overseer. IIc worked in this position until ap- pointed Acting Senior Survey Clerk, in 1924.
In April, 1920, he was scrended in the Colonial Secretary's Office, and in November of the вате усаг transferred to the General Works Office..
Returning from home leave, Mr. Howe was appointed: Assistant Ins- Pector of Works in March, 1920, and was promoted to Inspector of Works In January, 1033, serving in this capacity until his retirement.
From May, 1018, to July, 1819, he was seconded for military service.
