ON'T langh on the Front; the lasi rocket has gone up," they sald as the fireworka ended last night, and the great Town Regatta at Cowes was over. For the season here is shorter than that of any other seaside place.
At the end of the famous week, always the Art in August, the little' town at once returns to its normal Gedatenens.
Cowes in na fainous for yachting na Jerrey is famous for cows, but this bas been no kind year for the sport. Broken masta and put mainsails have been almost daily incidents.

It is true that the great yachts have contributed much spectacular benuty to Cowes Week
There is one type of ship which, beyond all others, has chained the eyes of tallers ever since men first. went down to the sea. This is the old square-rigger of which the yachting feet has provided such fhe types well
on at Cowes,
Brassey's Sunbeam,, which Lord made several trips found the world. was probably the most famous f there have s my them and other-Valhalla, St. George. Four Winds, ship, romante bolla i name and in the beautiful shape of bull and mast and spar.

But there are ofher clubs at Cowes which have helped to give a wider spread to the vogue of yachting. An out- standing example is the East Cowen Bailing Club, which was formed about twenty years ago by three working, men; and lucludes in its constitution the rule think 15 per cent, of its Com- milice shall be working men.
This club is now afiliated to the Yacht Racing Association, and has
nembership of aver two hundred and
thirty.
The whole work of the club is carried out by the members themselves who, almost without exception, fit out, lay up, and often build and repair their
own craft
