DANZIC AS MILITARY BASE

SECRET

BERLIN

ARMS PLAN REPORTED

Warsaw, Aug. 30. THAT the Free City of Danzig is to be militarised

and turned into a big military port and base in the North-East of Europe is reported in a sen- sational statement in the Polish Press to-night.

It is stated that three regiments of infantry and three batteries of artillery, with several squadrons of bombing planes, are to form the nucleus of the Danzig army.

All Storm Troop and other Nazi organisations in the Freo City are to be transformed into a regular standing army under German officers which will be increased by a further 5,000 men in the autumn.

Owing to Danzig's acute financial difficulties, Ger- many is to provide for the upkeep of the army.

This sensational decision was taken some time ago, and revealed

at manœuvres held by the Nazi military organisations of Danzig in Eastern Prussia this 'week-end.

Danger of World-Wide Food Shortage

New York, Aug. 30.

THE

THE possibility of a world food shortage next year is emphasised

by the great drought, which is now in ita third month.

This year's American maize crop, it is estimated, will be 108 million bushels below the five-year average-and the crop is declining

at the rate of 20 million bushels a day,

The United States, once the chief exporter of the world's muize, is now importing heavily, ranking second to Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The following figures show the magnitude of America's slump in maize:

1034

1034

YEAR'S TOTAL PRODUCTION

2,325,000,000 bushels | 2035 1,572,000,000 bushels

ACREAGE IN MAIZE, ..£3,500,000 | 1035

08,600,000

Despite this increase in acreage, however, the estimated yield per acre for 1033 will be 16 7-10 bushels às against 10 bushels in the drought year of 1934.

Barley, on which stock-fceders rely when maize la scarce, also shows a serious decline, while the hay crop is 7,000,000 tons below the five-year average.

Already there is some prospect that wheat crops will not meet the world's normal demand for bread. The shortage of feed crops for cattle indicates that the food scarcity will also extend to meat,

decayed teeth. Dental science warns that this menace must be combated.

Germ Acids form from fermenting food particles hidden in crevices between teeth, in imperfections of the enamel and where teeth meet gums, justly called the Danger Zone. These Germ Acids lead to decay and gum irritations.

You can neutralize the harmful acids merely by. brushing with Squibb Dental Cream, a pleasant, economical dentifrice because it is an antacid preparation. It also brings out the natural white ness of the teeth with perfect safety to enamel and gums for it contains no grit or astringents. Combat decay scientifically.
