upon War Department land, preferred a claim for Thirty Dollars against the Military Authorities which was forwarded through this Government, but this the Military Authorities steadily refused to pay and the claim being small, Mr. Antin, the administrator, at length forbore to press it:
After some time, however, it was obvious that something must be done, if similar collisions were to be avoided in future, and consequently the Government being fortunate in having a carriage road, I instructed the Surveyor General to make a foot track along the line of road shown on the War Office plan. I at the same time wrote to Colonel Ransome, then Commanding the troops, and informed him of what I was doing in a letter a copy of which I have the honour to enclose, and invited his cooperation in the scheme.
