Conditions were that no building was to be erected within 200 feet of the existing Magazine, nor any buildings as long as they might be used for the storage of powder, or other explosive materials. Certain other detached sites were also temporarily excluded from the proposed transfer as being possibly wanted as sites for Barracks. The letter added that should the Duke of Buckingham approve these proposals, the necessary instructions would be given to the local Military authorities to carry out the arrangement.
20. Upon receipt of their Despatch No. 74 of 1857, Sir Richard MacDonnell immediately forwarded a copy to the Major General Commanding, enquiring whether the proposals were agreeable to him. A reply was received to the effect that they were agreeable provided that the obstructions on the new road were removed and some land was given near the Magazine.
