6. In these despatches it is stated that on the 4th April 1866 he received an intimation from the Commandant of the Garrison that the lands granted for Military purposes in the Colony would be perambulated and the barrier-gates closed on a certain date named therein.
On reference, however, to the Major General it appeared that there was some doubt as to the boundary of Cantonments in Victoria to the North, there being no documents or plan on record in his Office defining the existence of any boundary stones along the Sanhem line.
8. A letter was accordingly written to Major General Guy requesting that no perambulation might take place of boundaries not hitherto distinctly defined. The Major General was also requested to cause copies of such documents and plans as defined the boundaries of Cantonments in Victoria to be furnished to the Colonial Government.
9. In reply a plan and a letter from the Commanding Royal Engineer addressed to the respective Offices of Ordnance were found...
