THE POPE URGES WORLD CHURCH CENSORSHIP
A PLEA made by the Pope last month for the establish- ment of a film censorship by Roman Catholic bishops in all countries brings nearer to. Hongkong the forma tion of a world-wide "League of Decency" on the lines now existing in the United States.
Conversations have already taken place between leaders of the Roman Catholic Church and of the film industry and it is anticipated that ou organisation for the classification of films according to moral standards will shortly be set up here.
It is noteworthy that certain Catholic Churches in Hong kong already exhibit notices, suggesting which shows members of the congregation should attend. Certain films are branded as "unfit for Catholics."
In an Euryclical addressed from the Vatican the Pope. declaring that motion pictures "have the power to be one of the greatest forces for good, but have in net nal fael become vehicles of evil" made these suggestions to archbishops and bishops throughout the world:
Clergy should· Secure annuallje from their congregations—in particular, fathers auf mothers|| of familien a promise to úbatain from witnessing bud Mlms.
There should be set up' in each nation un office, dependent on the bishops, to classify films no that congregations may know
