is morning, Yip Ynu, aged 23, un- employed, was charged with the theft of a bicycle from No. 460 Shanghai Street on July 21, the property of Lam Hoi-san, nged 2a, a cook.
Detective-Inspector A. I. Elston said that on July 21 defendant was seen trying to sell the bicycle. En- quiries were made and it was found that it had been stolen from outside Nu. 489 Shanghal Street where the owner had left it while he went inside. to get some cloth. The bicycle wag valted at $10.
The
prosecuting officer added that he had been instructed to say that the
Divisional Superintendent of Police (Kowloon) was very concerned over the thefts of bicycles. A serious view was taken in view of the case with which such thefts are committel and the extreme difficulty of tracing them. He asked for imprisonment for de- fendant.
Defendant admitted two previous convictions, and was sentenced to six werks hard labour,
