to enable them to purchase a Fire Engine and Equipments and a sum of #450 was voted for this purpose
The vote now submitted for your Lordship's approval are sums for the remuneration of the staff which it is necessary to keep up for the proper expression of the engine and other equipments.
Roads Sheets and
Bridges
There is only one other item to which I need to call Your Lordship's attention, that is the vote of #3500 for a path along the proposed New Road, deferring Bellary Boundaries.
As Your Lordship is aware, permission was given to the Executive to ask for a vote of £50000 to make a carriage road along a line which had been previously sanctioned by the Tram Office and which was to serve as a boundary line, and for the last few years this vote has always appeared on the estimate.
As, however, there is no immediate prospect of the construction of the road, and as the Government has been frequently requested by the local Military Authorities to put up either the road or something that would equally serve as a boundary line, I submitted to the Legislative Council the propriety of voting a small sum to make a path instead of the road, and accordingly the sum of $2500 was voted.
