Grant for the erection of New School House
An application having been made by the Reverend A. B. Hutchinson for a grant of money to assist in building a new school house for Chinese Girls, I referred the matter to the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council, and a sum of money equivalent to one half the total cost of the School, the other half having already been raised by private Subscription.
$315 was voted.
Books and Buildings $800
This $285 was voted by the Legislative Council consequent upon an application from the Surveyor General for permission to erect two Latrines at Aberdeen on Crown Lands, there having hitherto been much felt the absence.
Fire Brigade Department
The villagers of Aberdeen in the middle of last year expressed a desire to form a Volunteer Fire Brigade, and having subscribed over a hundred dollars towards the expenses attending its formation, applied for assistance from the Government. Examining this as a laudable undertaking, I, when administering the Government, asked for a small vote.
