San Francisco, June. 10. Vague, persistent rumours about America's most mysterious prison-Alcatraz-were partially dispelled recently by Sanford Bates, national director Federal prisons.

Bates, on a tour of inspection, talked with about 80 of the 200 prisoners at Alcatruz.

Only one complained that the food was not good enough. Some wanted to get out from under the iron discipline which has made the prison buted. Most, however, were eager to be moved to another institution because of the stigma which attaches to imprisonment. In Alentraz, Fates said.

Roosevelt's foreign projects have met with varying success, according to many observers, duc partly to the disturbed state of world affairs and partly to devotion of great energy to domestic economic recovery.

But the Democrats themselves, and many impartial experts, regard as successes the president's now-famous policy of "Good Neighbour" in Latin America affairs; the gain of 41 per cent, in exports during the Democratic regime and the formation of a neutrality policy designed to reduce the chances of the nation being drawn into war.
