-Scientist's "Foolish" Attack.
EXPERTS DENY CHARGES
AN extraordinary criticism of the liner Queen Mary, in which the ship is described as being old-fashioned in design, too slow, and unsuitably engined has just been made, in a scientific paper called Armchair Science.
The attack is made by Professor A. M. Low, the noted writer on scientific matters.
Already his opinions have aroused a storm of controversy. Leading men in the engineering and shipping world heatedly rofute Professor. Low's statements."
Professor Low's arguments are that:
Her gangways and masts are reminiscent of the oldest sails ing ships;....
She should have had internal combustion engines instead of turbines:
She should have had a speed of 50 or 60 m.p.h.
When these views were placed before Cunard-White Star om- cials they described the 'critleisnis as "ridientous,"
The head of a well-known firm of marine engineers and the attzek was based on misconceptions,
"The Queen Mary has bees, tesign. ed by the leading muuripe architects and engineers of the day working in co-operation." he said. “It is Funtas. tc. to suggest that they have pro- duced a ship which is already out of date.
LAST WORD IN SHILL "These experts, after months of consideration, came to the conclu- sion that turbine engines were the only practicable metliod of propul- sion for the liner.
"That ninkes funnels a. neersity, otherwise passengers and crew would he asphyxiated by fames.

THE FIRST BIRTHDAY HONOURS LIST OF KING EDWARD
Viti IS NOW BEING DRAWN UP.
The list will be comparatively short, as the King is likely to reserve the majority of the honours he wishes to bestow for his Coronation List next year..
It is understood, however, that His Majesty will probably confer the Order of Merit on Mr. Ramsay MacDonald-one of the highest honours in the gift of the Sovereign.
Both Mr. It. B. Bennett, former Canadian Premier, and Mr. S. M. Bruce, of Australia, are likely to be raised to the peerage in recognition of their great services!
