New Gretna, N. J., May 26. ↑ Five are dead and seven in hospital as a result of the worst forest fire in the history of the state of New Jersey.
Thirty-three other persons ·were reported missing earlier, but seven- teen of these are now accounted for. A total of 16,000 acres of timber was destroyed.

SAN FRANCISCO FIRE
San Francisco, May 26. The worst fire in years swept the city's waterfront to-day, consuming thousands of dollars of lumber in, three yards and destroying Ketera! buildings, the South Pacific trestle, disrupting railroad trallic, and forcing thousands of península commuters to leave the trains and make their way home through several miles of tlame- swept area.
The fire started in a sewer beneath the S.P.R. trestle and was carried to the surface of the Third Street chan-
nel. Blazing oil residue spread the fire over four blocks.
Seven ships loaded with Imber were trapped in a xen of flames and were forood to cut adrift.
