What mystery surrounds the disinclination of Pan- American Airways, operators of the Pacific air mail service between California and the Philippine Islands, to even approach the Hongkong Government for permission to use Hongkong as the Far Eastern terminal of the pro- posed feeder service from Manila to China?

This is a question that is intriguing Hongkong aviation circles. For some time rumours have been current that Pan American's representative approached the Govern- ment, and that his request for permission to land machines in Hongkong was rejected.
These rumours are officially denied.
The Hongkong Government has given an assurance that no application was made by Pan American airways.
But
