Maritimo labour troubles, which threatened to burst into violence at San Francisco over the handling cargo on the liner Santa Itosa following labour disputes have simmered into awaiting game. Labour officials, shipping executives-oven spectators and police are shown watchfully await- ing something. Here's part of the waiting crowd on the Embarcadero, opposite the Santa Rosa's pier.
This 100-foot dyke constructed of abandoned motor-car bodies and river rocks in saving a motor-car camp owned by C. I. Barry at Yakima, Wash., from being washed away by Yakima River food waters. Thres hundred of the bodies have been put into the effective, dyko at a very low cost.
Major-General A. W. Bartholomow, General Officer Commanding British Troops in China, called on Mr. II. E. Arnhold, Chairman of the Shanghai Municipal Council at the Administration Building lost week. A guard of honour from the Russian Regiment S.V.C., was on hand and was inspected by the British Oficer.
