The said Leonardo d'Almada & Castro departed this life on the 15th day of January 1875.

The said deceased at the time of his death held the Office of: Clerk of the Councils and also Chief Clerk in the Office of the Colonial Secretary of the Colony of Hong Kong.

The said deceased was the oldest public servant of Her Majesty in the Colony of Hong Kong, having in the year 1836 entered the service of Her Majesty in the Office of the Superintendency of British Trade in China, continuing in that office up to May 1847, since which time and up to the time of his death holding the Office of Clerk of the Councils and Chief Clerk in the Office of the Colonial Secretary.

The deceased was unable out of his moderate salary in the expensive Colony of Hong Kong to have only a very small sum. In prosperous times, he invested his small savings in the purchase of House property which he heavily mortgaged. The Typhoon of 1874 very greatly damaged the property of the deceased and he became much indebted in repairing it.
