Two Farndes and Annual Inspection of s.v.c. were held in Shanghai last week in addition to coremonial farewell to Sir Alexander Cadogan, the re- tiring British Ambassador to China. In the afternoon, A fourth milltary turnout took place whon thu Portuguese Company, S.V.C., paraded before their Consul General, who presentou
medals to two officers on behalf of the President Portugal. The five pleturas above were taken in
in various right shows Sir Alexander Cadogan, with his hat off, the parts of the city in the morning. Upper
the General Salute from a Guard of Honour turned out at the British Consulate rounds by the Royal Lancashire Fusiliern. At his right is Brigadier F. S. Thackeray, commanding Shanghai
Aren and in the rear are Sir John Brenan. Consul-General, and Captain R. P. Willock, Air Attache. Upper left shows the Lancashire Fusiliers drawn up at attention. Left centre is the Russian Regiment passing in review before Mr. 1. E. Arn- hold, Chairman of the S.M.C., at the Rifle Range. For the first time in "lo. these many years," ratepayers of the Shanghal, International Sottle- ment were gripped by the itch to fill out ballots, and well over half of the entire allotment of votes were recorded in the first day of the recent sensational elections.
