There is an adage that "good ponies make good Jockeys" but at: the Easter meeting of the Hongkong Jockey Club held last week, the novices, Messes. J. C. Harris and Choy Wing-chiu turned the tables on the favourites and the best dividend was $100.80 paid by Herod under the able guidance of the former to the delight of 71 backers in the Bhek Pal Handicap for "A" class China Ponles.

In view of the fact that the Chinese Olympic trial side in- cluded some half a dozen players who are well nigh certain to . figure in the team to play at Berlin, plus the fact that the com- bination won four-nil, yesterday's trial match against United Services at Caroline Hill can be regarded by the selectors as being fairly satisfactory.

not much difference in poundage between him and Diana Hay at their last outings and under the circumstances Herod certainly staged a comeback to his Derby form of last season.
However, the start was not in any way a fair one for Onic Bay, who was left of the post, but, Herod forged ahead with a good two clear lengths and was chased by Diana Bay, Gladiator and Soldier of Britain with the rest of the field in close attend- ance. The same order of running was maintained right up to the quarter-of-a-inile post und when entering the straight, Diana Bay could not minke any headway to close the Mr. Harris opened his account by: winning the event with a clear margin of three lengths and Diona Bay beat Macaroni by 'n lengthì.
