BRITAIN REPORTEDLY

RECONCILED

(SPECIAL TO "TELEGRAPH")

LONDON, APRIL 16. DIPLOMATIC QUARTERS, HERE HAVE RE- PORTED THAT GREAT BRITAIN MAY OFFER TO SUSPEND ANTI-ITALIAN SANCTIONS IN RE- TURN FOR AN IMMEDIATE CESSATION OF HOSTILITIES IN ETHIOPIA.

It is indicated that Great Britain is eager for an early peace at almost any cost and that His Majesty's Government is reconciled to the fact that the peace terms must now be more favourable to Italy than those contained in the Hoare-Laval formula. It was because of the outcry which followed the announcement of the scheme drawn up by Sir Samuel Hoare and M. Pierre Laval, respectively British and French Foreign Ministers at the time, that the British Foreign Secretary resigned from office.

RALLIES FRANCE

TO MEET CRISIS

SARRAUT'S APPEAL FOR UNITY

Paris, Apr. 15.

An appeal to the French nation for unity and courage in the face of the present crisis was made by the Prime Minister, M. Albert Sarraut, in the course of a broadcast speech this evening.

He said they were still exhausting all chances of solving peaceably the conflict resulting from the violation of the Locarno Pact. They might, he said, have applied pressure of arms on the spot; and only the desire for peace had deterred them.

It is considered significant that the Ethiopian Minister in London has been unsuccessful in his efforts, ighters are supported by to obtain British credits to finance the purchase of munitions.

This is regarded as evidence that the British Government considers that Ethiopia's ultimate sub- mission to Italy is inevitable.-United Press.

Position Obscure

Geneva, Apr. 15.

The situation with regard to the Italo-Ethiopian peace talks is most obscure and admittedly very critical. The first interview between Senar Salvador de Madariaga, representing the Committee of Thirteen of the Len que of Nations, and Baron Aluisi representing the Italian Government, produced no tangible results.

It is understood that Baran Aloisi said he had come Geneva to discuss the possibilities of negotiation for peace and that he had no instructions repeating the basis of negotiations. He only proposed to discuss procedure i and did not intend to touch upon the question of an armistice. On this point, too, he had aotructions,
