YESTERDAY'S GAMES

Sunderland have won the first division championship in the English football league as a result of their handsome victory over Birmingham to-day. In the second division the contest for promotion has become intensified as a result of West Ham's partial failure at Leicester and the successes of Manchaster
United and Charlton.
Luton and Coventry both neored wing in the third division, Luton netting a dozen Umes against Bris- tol Rovers. But Reading Inst un their own ground to Crystal Palace
and are being forced out of the run-] ring for promotion to the second division.
