HOLIDAY RACING CARNIVAL OPENS SATURDAY
TWO-DAY MEETING FOR
PUNTERS' DELIGHT
Analysis Of The Prospects
(By "Captain Foster")
On Saturday the first saddling bell will be rung at noon, when the first day of the Easter Meeting, under the auspices of the Hongkong Jockey Club, will be staged, the Carnival concluding on Monday. The tiffin interval will be immediately after the second race and the third event is timed to be run at 2.30 p.m.
MAIN EVENT
SIX PROBABLE STARTERS
HONEYMOON EVE
FORTUNATE
Contrary to the expectation of those connected with the stable, Honeymoon Eve, the winner of the Hongkong Derby, has not been allotted with the top-weight of 168 ihs. in the main
event, the St. George's Plate over the champion course and is set to carry only weight for inches. The race is confined to the Griffins of the year and I understand that the Cup is present- ed by the President of St. George's: Society.
Race-goers will be treated with a capital programme of ten handicap races, the main contest being the St. George's Plate (1 miles) which is a handicap event for the grittins of this season. The Fatshan and Swalow handicaps have been sub-

the circumstances, this makes it easier for the students of form to compile a ranking list of their own and punters may look forward to a good day of thrills and handsome return of substantial dividends.
It is more than likely that Mr. F. M. L. Soares, whose last appearance was in the Kwangtung Handicap run on October 10, 1934 will be seen in the saddle, but the absence of Sir William and Miss Y. Shenton, Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Pearce, Mr. and Mrs. L. C. F. Bellamy and the popular Secretary, Mr. C. B. Brown, will be much felt.

The meeting opens with a run over the mile course and Cyclamen Bay, who was demotest last week to "B" class, should stand a good chance in the Canton Handienp. The Spring Handicap "A" latter pony has nut been entered and Cyclamen Bay has to be in his best to stop the challenge of Bright View, Pontiac Bay and Sadito, the winner of Hongham Bay If'cap. at the last Meeting. Open Singles (4th Round) Lai Kwong-trica brat E G. Pincher 6-3, 6-4.
Probably one of the most sur- prised men in Hongkong yes. terday afternoon was Lai Kwong-laun: he, like others, not only expected to be given a very hard game by E. C. Fincher in the open singles championship quarter-final, but he had to face the possibility of defcat.
Instead of a hard game and defeat, Lni enjoyed a comparative "knock-up" and as comfortable a trip into the semi-mals as any player could wish to have.

Hint
Starting with the back swing, the left hand should do the work of starting the club-head back from the ball. This keeps the club-head low and avoids snatching the
club back too fast.

To-day we have, a rest from Colony championship tennis; and the public will once again enjoy the opportunity of seeing E. D. Andrews will not play a singles. but he will appear in two doubles matches. In the first he will partner L. Goldman against S. A. and H. D. Kumjahn, our dethroned champions, and afterwards will be assisted by-E. C. Fincher against Taui brothers.
