possible a repetition of this inconvenience. I have consented at the request of the Colonial treasurer, to retain specially for the use of the public departments, as many of the Notes as may come in during each month up to the probable requirements of these departments, even although this arrangement must, to a certain extent, inconvenience, annoy, and probably cause loss to, several of our other constituents. I would beg therefore that the Government grant me the required permission to increase the One-dollar note issue by $74,000 - say $300,000 in all, which sum I believe will meet all the requirements of the Colony, until at all events, the immense increase to its trade occurs that is believed in many well-informed quarters will take place when the present so-called "blockade" of the Colony has been satisfactorily done away with.
