annoyance, inconvenience, and how dire

ultimate loss of applicants.

This

morning my

total stock

was $3,384 of these notes.

I attribute greatly the large demand for them to the increased activity in business now displayed in the colony by the Chinese (possibly the population may

be larger) and, as there is no reason to think this

will decrease, but rather the other

way, it may safely be assumed that

an

increased demand will ensue for

One Dollar notes, which, unless supplied, will cause much public inconvenience and

annoyance.

The circulation has been in existence

just over three years and has proved a very great public convenience.

I therefore would ask the Government to give us power to increase our issue, or, if the authority has to be obtained from the Colonial Office, to obtain it for

us, say, for the present to the extent of

$74,000, which would make the total authorised issue $300,000. If circumstances required, a request for a still further issue could be

made later on.

At the present time Chinese capital is being largely invested in property in the colony - indeed it is
