a month.
The Acting Colonial Treasurer
now reported Mr. Alves to possess qualifications for the post, I have placed him on the permanent Staff as 4th Class. I have not thought it advisable, however, to give him the full pay of the office at present;
and have allowed him $40 a month, which will in the course
of time be increased to $50 after his acquitting himself with
zeal and diligence.
