- willing to continue the allowance of £100 hitherto granted
to Mr. Mitchell to his
successor
MW. Lister, and that amount had, therefore, to be provided for
on
the Estimates. Mr. Austin, however,
held out hopes that Mr. Place's application would be favourably
entertained later on, and I now have much pleasure in seconding the Postmaster General's wish that Mr. Place's salary may be increased from £175 to £200 a year, especially as he bears an excellent character and is most favourably reported on by his Chief.

7. I may mention that should Your Lordship approve of the provisional increases which I have made in each of these cases, there will be no necessity to ask for a supplementary vote, as both increments are provided for by the £100 which the continuation of the grant from Imperial sources has set free.
