&c.

We, the undersigned, beg to represent that the extreme and prolonged heat of the summer months has rendered it absolutely necessary to rebuild and greatly enlarge the existing military chapel at Kowloon. We, however, lack the means, nor can we obtain much aid from these parts, as all have suffered severely from the recent terrible typhoon. We therefore appeal with confidence to the Military Authorities, who have always shown themselves both willing and ready to encourage every measure calculated to promote the welfare of the army, irrespective of creed.

Permit us to add that the manner in which the different Roman Catholic Chaplains have ever performed their duties among the soldiers, has given the highest possible satisfaction to the Commanders-in-Chief of this station, (as is evident from documents on record).

We have the honour to be, Right Honourable Sir,

Your obedient servants,

+ John T. Quinquecclesians, Vicar Apostolic
