Right Honble Sir,

I presume you are aware that the late typhoon of September last has caused great destruction to this Colony, Hong Kong.

The sufferers, in general, have suffered the most serious injuries. One of the utter demolitions was the New Roman Catholic Church of St. Joseph.

This church was especially built to accommodate the Catholic portion of Her Most Gracious Majesty's troops serving at Hongkong. It was nicely situated in the neighbourhood of the barracks.

It no longer stands, and now the soldiers are obliged to march a long distance on Sundays and holidays to attend divine service.
