WIFE LOSES DIVORCE
BATTLE AFTER FOUR YEARS
A four-year-long legal battle over a divorce decree was finally ended in London last month in the chamber of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, the highert tribunal of the Empire.
The story starts in 1931. A Canadian fudge granted a decree. against Mrs. Corn Lillian McPherson, wife of Mr. Oran Leo MePherson, then Minister of Public Works for Alberta. The auft was heard in the judges' law library at Edmonton, Alberta.
-After the decree had been made absolute, Mr. McPherson married Mrs. Mattern, wife of Mr. Leroy Mattern, whom he had cited as co-respondent. Mrs. Mattern had divorced Mr. Mattern on the ground of his misconduct with Mrs. McPherson.
After Mr. McPherson's remarriage, Mrs. McPherson, pleading that her husband's suit had not been heard in open court, appealed
to the Supreme Court of Alberta
to have the decree against her PARENTS OF 10
declared vold. Her appeal fail-

SHOT HER SON ?
Mrs. Dorothea F. Livermore, di- vorced wife of the famous Wall Street operator, Jesse Livermore, accused of shooting her 10-year- old son, Jesse Jr., in an argument over drinking.
Dr. Martin pointed out that "mo- ment" as used in connection with a psychological reaction in current speech is made in reference to the most euitable time for a happening. "Actually the psychological mʊ- ment refers to the force that cer- tain ideas have through their im- portance in relation to other mat- tera of interest," he said. "In this case moment is drive or weight, and not a modicum of time. In popular speech the confusion of the words is really form of pun.
"Often a salesman makes numer- ous calls and is backed by a big advertising campaign and when at last he makes the sale, attributes it to aceing the client at the right psychological moment.
Cumulative Effect
"In reality this is purely the backing up of the effects of his calls, so that each subsequent call enjoys the accumulation of im- pressions made.
"The perseverance of the sales- man wears away all resistance," added Dr. Martin.
Dr. Martin added that psychologi- cal moment was mostly a matter of conscience.
