Ordinance,

London, Jan. 9. British sources said to-day that Mr. Norman Davis, the chief of the American delegation to the Naval Conference, hul held a private conference with Mr. Anthony Eden, the Secretary for Foreign Affairs, in an attempt to decide whether. the naval conversations should continue or adjourn as hopeless. It is believed that the American spokesman urged that Japan should either demonstrate that she intended to

the conference's operate or assume the responsibility for failure.

CO-

Later, the Japanese delegates met the British at a private conference, and again insisted that their claim of equality of naval armaments must be considered before other proposals, increasing the prospects of a collapse of the whole parley.

Friday's session of the conference has been postponed to permit Viscount Monsell, First Lord of the Admiralty to sound other powers upon their reactions to the deadlock.-United Press,
