WORLD SILVER

PARLEY?

PRICE AGREEMENT MAY BE

BE REACHED

REPORTED SALES BY CHINA CAUSE RUMOUR

Washington, January 2,

On the eve of the re-convening of Congress, the silver ques- tion has again come to the fore.

Two of the leading proponents of an increasing usage of. silver in world currencies to-day expressed the belief that a world silver conference is in the making, but the silver cham- pions disagreed as to the manner in which the American Treasury had carried out the Silver Purchasing Act.

Senator King declared that the Secretary of the Treasury, Mr. Henry Morgenthau had carried out the programme in good faith and, at the same time, he approved the idea of a silver parley between the silver-producing countries.

Senator Thomas, on the other hand, questions the. Treasury's enthusiasm in acquiring silver and expressed the. opinion that the conversation with the Mexican Treasury pos- sibly foreshadow a world meeting. He added: "We should line up Mexico, Canada, the South American silver countries, and later the Far East with a view to combatting the "managed currency bloc."

Meanwhile, officials in Mexico City are silent regarding the Washingtoir discussions, but some financial experts predict a price agreement between the United States and Mexico.
