En route to an altitude higher than man over reached before, Explorer II, the stratosphere balloon, la pictured taking off near Rapid City. Within five hours the balloon had carried two Army flyers, Capt. Orval A. Anderson and Capt. Albert W. Stevens,, to height of 74,187 fast-a new unofficial world's altitude record,
