ventilated
The Wards are lighted and ventilated by windows placed in the opposite side of the Room and by large window at one end, the opposite end having a door communicating with the Verandah. The windows are in all cases shaded from the direct action of the sun by wide verandahs.
The Area and height of the Wards are such that a space of about 2000 cubic feet is provided for each Patient.
Access to every part of the Building is provided by the centre and by a large Corridor, which connects together the various parts of the building at each end, and by a smaller Staircase.
The Operating Theatre is made accessible from the Corridor on the Middle floor, but Students and other witnesses to operations can gain access to the seats on the Upper floor as well as the centre floor, with the use of the Staircase. There are Retiring Rooms and Lavatory, Provision is made for an ample supply of water.

The walls of each Ward should be plain so as to admit of being painted.
The roof should be constructed as far as possible of wrought iron covered with stucco or slates.
It is proposed to leave a space between the ceiling of the Upper Wards and the Roof in order to secure a thorough current of air above, which tends to keep down the temperature.
It is proposed to construct the windows of the Wards with three Compartments, the upper Compartment...
