Soldings or ornaments, then impair the Efficiency of the Building by curtailing any of the internal arrangements unless it can be shown to the local authority that such architectural features are uncalled for. The point to be impressed upon the local authorities, is, that all architectural effect should be dispensed with if this involves considering anything other than the arrangement which is necessary for the safeguarding of the Hospital.

The Verandahs add very considerably to the cost, and I would suggest whether some other and less expensive arrangement can be adopted with advantage.

It is noted that the Verandahs protect the Walls from the direct action of the sunny days, but they also prevent the dispersion of air which flows from the Wards, and I suggest on days when the wind is light, the Ventilation would be unavoidably hindered.

The inner and outer walls being about 10 or 12 inches apart are bonded together in order to make one wall. The intermediate space is roughly ventilated by openings at the top and bottom, the air passing through the outer wall.
