Since I last wrote to you on the subject of Bishop Burdon's status; I have received the Enclosed letter from the Bishop which I think it well to forward to your Lordship, though I have no doubt from your last communication that you are already taking the steps which I deem necessary.
I have marked certain passages in the Bishop's letter which show, if any further proof were needed, the importance of settling the position of the new Bishop, through the intervention of the local legislature, as to place him, as much as possible, in the same position as his predecessors.
I have no doubt your Lordship concurs with me, in thinking it desirable that his position in his Cathedral should be defined; that his enjoyment of the College and other property vested by the original founders of the See in the Bishop of Victoria, should be secured, and that he should be put in such position as to be able legally to assert his rights.
