It is reported that the British Government has been in- formed through French diplomatic channels that Signor Benito Mussolini has rojected the latest Franco-British peace proposals.
The news is expected to change the character of Sir Samuel Hoare's conference in Paris with M. Pierre Laval, at which the British Foreign Minister is now expected to do his utmost to cement the Franco-British united front in face of the increasingly acute situation. He will attempt to persuade. M. Laval to co-operate in an oil embargo,
Diplomats state that all indications point to a rigorous continuation of the Ethiopian war, a strengthening of sanctions and mounting danger in the Mediterranean,
It is rumoured that Signor Mussolini may reply to the oil embargo by severing diplomatic relations with the nations backing the sanctions.
It is further reported that Great Britain is conducting secret parleys with a view to improying and expanding her Mediterranean naval bases.-United Presa.

Well-informed observers believe that the statement of Mr. Cordell Hall, the United States Secretary of State, and the address in the House of Commons yesterday of Sir Samuel Hoare, the British Foreign Minister, constitute a veiled warning to Japan to have a care lest sho become the objective of the world peace machinery.
