Paris, Nov. 28.

British and French diplomats believe that the time is ripe for a now attempt to end the war In Ethiopia.

It is learned in well-informed quarters that both the British and French Governments have instructed their Ambas sadors at Home to ask Signor Benito Mussolin confidentially to reveal his terms for the ecasation of hostilities.

It is understood that M. Pierre Laval, the French Primo Minister, feels that Italy would accept the non-Amharie pro- vinces, already allegedly conquered by Italy, and in return would call a halt to the campaign against Ethiopia. Whether Ethiopia would accept such terms or not romains to be seen.

. Both British and French diplomats are anxious to start diplomatic conversations with a view to ending the war before the oil sanctions are imposed by the League of Nations. These, it is felt, might embitter Signor Mussolini beyond compromise. -United Press:

Paris, Nov. 28.

The Government of M. Pierre Laval obtained a vote of. confidence, with 845 against 225 in the Chamber's first test of deputies' opinion, according to the lobby report. This meana the Chamber will agree to M. Laval's demand that the debate on the Government's finance policy, which in effect is to protect the frane against devaluation; shall take precedence over everything else.

The most stringent precautions have been taken to maintain order during the fateful meeting of the Chamber. Plain clothes police mingled with the crowd and 170 Mobile Guards," with carbines, waited in the vicinity of the Chamber in caso of emergency.

The entire Cabinet ant on the Government bench and M. Laval was politely applauded when he announced he was. determined not to shirk the debate.

The Prime Minister added that at a conference of pre sidents of groups it had been decided to commence the dia cussion of the complaints regarding Fasclat and Nationalist. leagues on Tuesday morning. Radicals are agitating for the suppression of these organisations, such as the Croix de Feu, which, they maintain, are planning to undermine the control of the Government, and effect a coup d'etat.
