I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of 12th instant, enclosing copy of a Despatch from the Governor of Hong Kong, on the subject of the assistance rendered, by the Government of Macao to the Company's S.S. "Gwalior", broken down near that port, by the prompt despatch of the Gunboat Tejo.
In reply, I am instructed to state that the Directors are deeply sensible of the value of the service so promptly rendered by Governor D'Avila, by despatching the Tejo to the assistance of the "Gwalior", and have addressed to the Foreign Office a request that that Department would thank the Port Governor for the friendly assistance.
The Under Secretary of State for the Colonies,
Downing Street.
