way.
Reinforcements have been sent | to Gorrahai, which is still in the lands of the Ethioplans, butį there have been no reports of major victories such as the popu lation was led to expect. On the contrary, provincial headquarters indicate that the offensive has collapsed after minor Nuccesses far to the south and east of Jijiga. -United Press.

BRITAIN FIRM WITH ITALY
MAY FIX SANCTIONS DATE TO-DAY
ITALIAN PRESS STILL ABUSES ENGLAND
London, Oct. 31.
It is learned that Sir Eric Drummond, the British Ambassador to Rome, has taken a firm attitude in his talks with Signor Mussolini, particularly at the conver- sations on October 29.
..:
He then reiterated that Britain had no quarrel with Italy and simply stood for the fulfilment of the League Covenant obligations.
Nevertheless, the Italian press attacks upon Great Britain continue.
The withdrawal of troops from Libya by Italy is welcomed by the British Government, but it is pointed out that Italy had an excess of fighting men in that territory, an excess far beyond her normal require ments-Reuter.
