BRITISH HEALTH
STATISTICS
LOW TUBERCULOSIS RECORD
London,Oct. 14,
The report for 1934 of the Chief Medical Omeor to the Ministry of Health records a death rate of 11.8 pet thousand of the population against 12.3 in 1933. The birth rate rose slightly from 14.4 per: thousand in 1933 to 14.8, and the infant mortality rate wns the lowest over recorded at 69 deathe of children under one year per thousand births. The death rate from tuberculosis was also the lowest ever recorded.
The Chief Officer states that evidence at his disposal "shows even in the most distressed areas of the country that the measures taken by the public authorities and the gonerous efforts of in- dividuals have, so far as the usual indices of health can be trusted, largely held In check the de leterious influences of unemploy- mont and reduced income."
