The funeral of the late Mr. Aubrey M. Bowes-Smith, who passed away at the War Memorial Hospital on Sunday, was held at the Protestant Cemetery, Happy Valley, yeaterday evening and attended by a large gathering. The Rev. Erris C. II. Tribbeck, of the /Wesleyan Methodist Church,
officiated at the gravesidie.

that the Japanese Consul General here has filed a strong protest to the Chinese authorities against the recent detention of Japanese rice, demanding its immediate release. but the request has so far not been complied with.
