OBITUARY

FORMER MEMBER OF STAFF OF HONGKONG BANK

Old China hands will learn with regret of the death of Mr. A. W. W. Walkinshaw, Inte of the Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corporation, which occurred at Bournemouth, England, on July 4. Mr. Walkinshaw, who was in his 56th year, was born at Foo- chow, and, after having received his education at St. Andrews, and gaining his preliminary barking experience in Scotland and in "Wayfoong's" London office, he came out to Shanghai about 1994. A keen golfer and the possessor of the typical St. Andrews style, he immediately became a strong rival to Mr. J. McMurtrie, who, for several years previously, hnd occupied an unchallenged place na the leading golfer of Shanghai. In 1905, the pair participated in a ding-dong battle in the final of the championship, the honours resting with Mr. McMurtric after a tremendous struggle, states the N. C. D. News. In 1906, Mr. Walkinshaw became the cham- pion, defeating the late Mr. V. H. Lanning by a wide margin,
