Archipelago and Manila. The home of the Carolines are inhabited by Spaniards, no settlement has ever been made on any of them, no tribute is paid, nor, as far as I can hear, do they appear to have at any time had any treaty with them, and there are no traces at present to be found of their sojourn there. Since that time also no communication would appear to have been held between the island of that archipelago and Spain, nor has any treaty been entered into between any of the Europeans and Spain.
Geographically speaking the Caroline group has no connection with the Philippines.
