Coolies at Macao is contemplated,

nor do

I think it likely to be

re-established, so long

as the

Lisbon Govt is firm in its

determination to forbid it, and

will allow of no

evasion of its orders.

Great pressure will doubtless be brought to bear on

Señor Lobo d'Avila, the present Governor,

and also at home, to obtain some modification of the

Decree of the 27th of December 1873,

but it is to be hoped, without success,

for it would lead only to complications between

the Portuguese and Chinese Govts, the latter of

whom is determined to put the Traffic down.
