The presence in London recent- ly of Commodore Luigi Fredd, the Italian Director-General of Cine- matography. foreshadowed big developments within the Italian film producing industry. A scheme for a close Anglo-Italian co-operation Is being discussed.
Commodore Freddi, in an inter- view with the Kine weekly, said the main reason for his visit to London is to gain an intimate con- tact with the British film Industry.
"It Is the firm intention of the Italian Government" he said, "to render the Italian film a factor of world-wide importance.
"First, Italian pictures had to be given a strong basis in the home market by improving their quality. This, we decided, could not be brought about by suppressing prl. vate initiative, by chaining pro duzers with all kinds of regulations and restrictions, but was to be Tected by affording them every asplatance possible.
