TRAGEDY ON SAHARA
MAN AND WOMAN DIE OF THIRST
HORRIBLE END
Paris, June 2. An Englishwoman and an Eng- lishman. Mrs. Knight and Mr. Peyton, have been found dead from thirst and exposure about five miles out of Ingeason in the south- orn Sahara.
Their two French companions, Huebert and Chavain, French traders established at Kano, in Nigeria, with whom they set out on May 22 from Agndez, in the French Soudan, to motor to Taman Rasset, 500 miles to the north in the Hog- gar, were found lying delirious and wnated under their car about 35 miles from Ingesaam.
The four travellers had appare ently presumed, from the frequency with which cars now cross the Sabara, that the expedition could be undertaken without a guide and, it would seem, with insuficient pro- visions.
On leaving Ingessam, which is 300 miles from their goal, they followed an old trail no longer in Discovering their error they tried to eat across the desert to pick up the regular route.

Peyton proposed to make their way back by night to Ingessam on foot: After the travellers had been missing for two days the chief mechanic of Taman Rasset, M. Coquet, and M. Jean Estienne set out to look for the ear. It took them three days to find it.
The two Frenchmen were lying. emaciated in a pit that they had dug under the ear for better shel- ter. They told the reseners that The two English people had started to walk back to their starting point. The rescuers then set out down the track to look for Mrs. Knight and her companion.
