LITTLE HOPE
PENNSYLVANIA TURNS COAT
Whshington,
Mr. Franklin D. Roosevelt will be the Democratic candidate for President of the United States in 1936 and all the party members now want is an improvement in the nation's economic situation.
The Democratic high command believe that regardless of eir. cumstances, Mr. Roosevelt will be returned to the White House for another four years. They admit, however, that n general improve- ment in economic conditions would make his election much easier. Conversely, should the depression get worse, opposition to the Presi dent would increase.

FARLEY DIRECTS
Furthermore, the Democrats are in possession of an efficient or ganisation auch as they never dreamed of having. Postmaster- General James A. Farley, who is Also National Democratic Chair- man, and Chairman of the New York State Democratic Party, is one of the shrewdest politicians who ever operated in this country. He will direct the 1936 campaign Farley has numerous efficient Associates, such as Emil Hurja and Secretary of Commerce Daniel Roper, who are known for their parspfeneity, in judging just what the average man throughout the country is thinking about, and how he feels.

BYNG OF VIMY PRAISES HIS CANADIANS
"THEY SAW ME. THROUGH"
ACHIEVEMENT. AT CAMBRAI
Washington. -Viscount Byng of Vimy, who gained military pre-eminence 'at the battle on the Ridge whose name he bears, has an inner feel- ing that the Battle of Cambrai WAR the scene of his greatest.
| achievement..
All the world knows of the fam- ous battle on April 9, 1917, when the Canadian Corps carried heights occupied by the Germans and gave re-birth to the flagging confidence of the Allies; but Mar- shal Byng's action at Cambrai | has been less remembered.
"The Vimy netion was cut and dried; it had been in preparation for four months after the Somme," the Viscount said in an interview here.
"It is of interest to military students as an example of an offensive-defensive action. We took the ridge to hold it fefen- sively while the Third Army gain- ed ground. The action at Vimy was crowned with anecess but the larger movement did not entirely obtain its objectives. The battle was remarkable for the wonderfal co-operation of the services."
Preased for further reply na fo what loomed in his own mind na his greatest accomplishment, he referred to the battle of Cambrai, on October 9, 1917, which he said had been instigated by him and was fought by his army.
Marshal Byng said that he first met General John, J. Pershing, commander-in-chief of the Ameri- ean Expeditionary Force, at Cam- bral.
"He stayed with me at Cambrai, and made an impression on me by his unro for the .wounded. He spent an entire day at front line hospitals and casualty stations. I have never seen him since Cam→ brai.
Viscount Byng said that he had naver written a hóbk regarding his war-time experiences and he doubted if he should ever do so.

Something that--. until the introduction of this truly remarkable little instrument was considered out of the question. But the seemingly impossible has been accomplished and DECCA- the inventors of the first acoustic portable--now introduce the world's first portable radio-gram.
A marvel of ingenuity, the 'Portrola is distinguished not merely for its portability and novelty, but it really is a highly efficient radio-gram, giving superlative results on radio or records and challenging favourable comparison with most multi-valve receivers.
