ATTORNEY-GENERAL'S WARNING
ENTICING "BAIT"
Sir Thomas Inskip, the Attorney- General, in a broadcast recently. warned the public against bozus share-punhing. He said he had ruceived information about the activities of certain persons who Rcattered circulars with the object of getting people to gamble with
them.
At the present lime, he said, a great number of these were being sent through the post. They cou tained advice to mako Investments In certain shares yielding quick profit,
"It is quite likely that the first transaction will result in a num being paid to you to show you how easy it is to make a profit. That is the bait. By methods of this sort you will be enticed into a number of transactions, as a re- sult of which you will lose every- thing you possess. In many cases the people who carried out the transactions did not buy or sell any shares."
As an example of the type of letters he received from people who had been tricked, Sir Thomas read one from a small business may who said he had lost all his savings, about £500,

The Attorney-General that it was difficult to frame a law to stop these practices, but so long as there were people who were so foolish as to listen to these offers the practice would go on. If people had money to invest he advised them to go to a stock- broker whom they knew or to the locaf bank manager.
"Remember,"
la .concluded, "that these offers to make money quickly for you are simply an in- vitation to you to kamble in such a way as to make it certain you will lose four money."
