A now type of film projector, at present being perfected in this country, is expected to effect a minor revolution in cinema ganisation when it is put on the market.'

The outstanding features of the pew apparatus ord Its cheapness, its transportability, and its use of a powerful electric bulb instead of a carbon are.

The Post Office Film-Unit, m section of which is at present sta- tioned in Edinburgh, has taken a prominent part in the evolution of the new projector.

When the Postmaster-General- decided to use the film as a medium of propaganda, It was necessary to secure apparatus which could be owned outright by the Post Office. The existing talking picture pro- jection systems cannot be sought outright but are leased to exhibi- tors. This leaso la expensive, and may cost anything from £1,000 to £7,000. Repairs must be carried out by engineers employed by the producing firms-a further ex- penso.

The now apparatus, à unit of two projectors with loud-apeakers, &c.. can be bought outright for £700. In addition to this low initial coat, the expense of upkeep is compara tively alight. The current consum-1 ed is ten amperes an hour, while the average talkie sot uses about 90 amptres.

An important departure in the projector is the use of an electric bulb instead of a carbon are as the source of light. Unce axed, this does not need to be altered, or specially focussed, and there is no possibility of the fading ex perienced in most cinemas using carbon arce. There is practically no heat and the risk of fire is thus reduced,
